Removal And Installation: Cable: Removal

  1. If equipped with 2.0L Zetec, disconnect the accelerator cable (9A758) from the throttle control lever (9A776) and the accelerator cable bracket (9723).
    1. Disconnect the cable housing from the accelerator cable bracket.
    2. Disconnect the accelerator cable end from the throttle control lever.
    3. Position the accelerator cable aside.

  2. If equipped with 2.0L Zetec, remove the accelerator cable retaining clips.

  3. If equipped with 2.0L SPI, disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle control lever and the accelerator cable bracket.
    1. Disconnect the cable housing from the accelerator cable bracket.
    2. Disconnect the accelerator cable end from the throttle control lever.
    3. Position the accelerator cable aside.

  4. If equipped with 2.0L SPI, remove the accelerator cable retaining clips.

  5. Remove the (A) bolts and lower the (B) accelerator pedal and shaft (9725).

  6. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal and shaft.
    1. Squeeze the cable end locking grommet tabs.
    2. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
    3. Remove the accelerator pedal and shaft.

  7. Squeeze the accelerator cable lock tabs and pull the accelerator cable out of the bulkhead.
