Removal And Installation: Pedal: Removal

  1. If equipped with 2.0L Zetec, disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle control lever (9A776) and the accelerator cable bracket (9723).
    1. Disconnect the accelerator cable housing from the accelerator cable bracket.
    2. Disconnect the accelerator cable housing from the throttle control lever.
    3. Position the accelerator cable (9A758) aside.

  2. If equipped with 2.0L SPI, disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle control lever and the accelerator cable bracket.
    1. Disconnect the cable housing from the bracket.
    2. Disconnect the accelerator cable and from the throttle control lever.
    3. Position the accelerator cable aside.

  3. Remove the (A) bolts and lower the (B) accelerator pedal and shaft (9725).

  4. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the accelerator pedal and shaft.
    1. Squeeze the cable end locking grommet tabs.
    2. Disconnect the accelerator cable.
    3. Remove the accelerator pedal and shaft.

  5. Remove the E-clip.

  6. Disassemble the accelerator pedal and shaft.
    1. Remove the accelerator pedal and shaft.
    2. Remove the accelerator shaft retainer and spring.
