Automatic Transaxle/Transmission: Removal: Transaxle: Procedure
- Remove the battery tray (10732); refer to BATTERY TRAY .
- Remove the air cleaner outlet tube (9B659); refer to AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS .
- Remove the engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600); refer to AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS .
- Remove the computer control relay module (CCRM).
- Disconnect the CCRM electrical connector.
- Remove the CCRM bracket bolt and the CCRM bracket nut.
- Remove the CCRM and bracket as an assembly.
- Remove the shift cable and bracket (7E395) and position it aside.
- Remove the shift cable and bracket nut from the manual control shift outer lever (7G354).
- Remove the shift cable and bracket clip.
- Disconnect the (A) transmission range (TR) sensor electrical connector, the (B) transmission solenoid electrical connector, and the (C) turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the downstream catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
- Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
- Remove the starter motor; refer to STARTERS .
- Install Three-Bar Engine Support.
- Disconnect the fluid cooler lines from the transmission.
- Remove the LH engine support insulator nuts and washers.
- Remove the upper transmission to engine bolts.
- Raise and support the vehicle; refer to JACKING & HOISTING .
- Remove the case plug (7A010) and drain the transmission fluid.
- Remove the RH and LH halfshafts; refer to AXLE SHAFTS .
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) wire clip.
- Remove the crossmember.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the crossmember.
- Remove the three-way catalytic converter; refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM ..
- Remove the transmission support crossmember.
- Remove the transmission support crossmember bolts and nuts.
- Remove the LH engine isolator nuts.
- Remove the transmission isolator nuts.
- Remove the transmission housing cover.
- Remove the bolts.
- Remove the housing cover.
- Remove the four flywheel to converter retaining nuts.
- Position Transmission Jack under the transmission. Secure the transmission to the jack.
- Remove the five remaining transmission to engine bolts.
- Carefully lower the transmission out of the vehicle.
NOTE:
Place a drain pan under the transmission before disconnecting the fluid cooler lines.
NOTE:
Disconnect the A/C line from the retainer located on the front of the front engine crossmember.
