Module Configuration

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Lincoln Blackwood. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Powertrain control module has to be flash programmed using a flash cable. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE: Newly released modules will require configuration after being installed on vehicle. All configurable modules will be packaged in a kit which contains a warning label and multi-language sheet reemphasizing requirements to configure replacement modules. A New Generation Star (NGS) tester or Ford compatible scan tool MUST be used to retrieve configuration data from old module before it is removed from vehicle. This information will be transferred into new module so that new module will contain same settings as old module. NGS tester will not retain stored configuration information for longer than 24 hours.

Following manufacturer's instructions, upload old information from old module using Ford Service Function (FSF) card and NGS tester. Install new module and download stored information into new module using FSF card and NGS tester. If diagnostic tool is not able to find all needed information in module, it will prompt you to enter some programmable parameters. The diagnostic tool will ask that any information not stored in module be manually entered. Most programmable parameters are customer preference items, such as speed dependent wipers or Remote Keyless Entry System options such as horn chirp, auto-lock enable/disable, and LED flash. If using New Generation Star Tester (NGS) or Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS), programmable parameters may changed by selecting PROGRAMMABLE PARAMETERS in MODULE PROGRAMMING. A list of programmable parameters will appear depending on module selected. To change parameters, select parameter to be changed and the options will appear on the screen, select desired change and diagnostic tool will apply changes to module.
