Timing Drive Components: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
  2. Remove the engine front cover. For additional information, refer to ENGINE FRONT COVER .
  3. Remove the synchronizer drive gear.
    1. Remove the bolt.
    2. Remove the synchronizer drive gear.

  4. Rotate the crankshaft until the timing marks and keyways align.

  5. Compress and install a retaining pin to hold the timing chain tensioner.

  6. Remove the camshaft gear, crankshaft gear and the timing chain as an assembly.

  7. Remove the bolts and the timing chain tensioner.
