Steering Column: Assembly

Floor shift vehicles
- Install the inhibitor cable bracket and the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
- Install the shift cable bracket and the 2 bolts.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).
- Install the gearshift lever and the screw.
- Tighten to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft).
- Fully insert the inhibitor into the cavity and install the inhibitor spring.
- Apply grease to the outer surfaces of the inhibitor and in the inhibitor spring pocket.
- Install the brake shift interlock solenoid.
- Simultaneously insert the park position switch and the brake shift interlock solenoid.
- Connect the clip.
- Install the clockspring mounting bracket and the screw.
- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in).
- Install the ignition switch and the screw.
- Tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in).
- Install the multi-function switch. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES .
- Install the clockspring. For additional information, refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
- Install the steering wheel. For additional information, refer to STEERING WHEEL .
- Install the steering column. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
Column shift vehicles
NOTE:
Make sure the pocket in the inhibitor for the brake shift interlock solenoid plunger is free of grease and foreign material.
NOTE:
Place the gear shift lever in the lowest gear position.
All vehicles
NOTE:
Place the ignition key in the OFF position.
