Chain Cover: Disassembly

    NOTE: If installation of a new chain cover is necessary, the main control wire harness must be transferred.

  1. Press tabs and remove the harness.
  2. Remove the thrust washers.
    1. Remove the No. 1 drive sprocket thrust washer.
    2. Remove the No. 3 chain cover thrust washer.

  3. Remove the bolt and the manual valve detent spring.

  4. Remove the accumulator piston shafts.

  5. CAUTION: Do not use any objects in the piston shaft bore for removal. Damage to the bore will result.
    NOTE: Tag and mark the location of the accumulator pistons.

  6. Remove the accumulator pistons.
  7. CAUTION: Use care not to damage the machined surface of the chain cover.
    NOTE: The use of side cutters supported by a small piece of wood will aid in the removal of the bimetal retaining collars.

  8. Remove the bi-metal element and the thermostat plate.
