Pinpoint Test A: Accelerator Pedal Is Hard To Push Down
- A1 CHECK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND CABLE TRAVEL
- Disconnect the cable end from the throttle body linkage.
- Make sure the disconnected end of the accelerator cable does not come in contact with any of the surrounding parts.
- Operate the accelerator pedal and shaft by hand.
- Is the full pedal travel to wide open throttle (WOT) restricted by carpeting, floor mats or other obstruction?
- YES : REMOVE the obstruction to pedal travel.
- NO : Go to A2.
- A2 CHECK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND CABLE FOR BINDING
- With the cable end disconnected, operate the pedal by foot.
- Is the pedal operation smooth?
NOTE: The accelerator cable should not be lubricated and is not a repairable item.- YES : REFER to the Introduction - Gasoline Engines for diagnosis and testing of the throttle body.
- NO : CHECK the accelerator pedal and shaft for free operation. INSTALL a new accelerator cable as necessary. If accelerator pedal and shaft have free operation, go to Pinpoint Test B .
