Pinpoint Test B: High Engine Idle Speed

  1. B1 CHECK THE CABLE CONDITION 
    • Disconnect the accelerator cable from the cam at the throttle body.
    • Make sure the disconnected end of the accelerator cable does not come in contact with any of the surrounding parts.
    • Is the cable core wire kinked, frayed or damaged? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new accelerator cable. REFER to Accelerator Cable .
    2. NO  : Go to  B2.
  2. B2 RESTRICTED CABLE MOVEMENT 
    • With the cable disconnected from the cam at the throttle body, pull the core wire through its entire travel from the pedal end and then from the throttle end.
    • Is the cable movement rough, sticky or restricted? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new accelerator cable. REFER to Accelerator Cable .
    2. NO  : Go to  B3.
  3. B3 RESTRICTED THROTTLE BODY LEVER MOVEMENT 
    • Disconnect the speed control actuator cable from the throttle body lever.
    • Cycle the throttle body lever through its entire range of movement.
    • Is the throttle body lever movement rough, sticky or restricted? 
    1. YES  : REFER to the Introduction - Gasoline Engines for diagnosis and testing of the throttle body.
    2. NO  : REFER to SPEED CONTROL .
