Direct Clutch Assembly

Direct Clutch Assembly

Direct Clutch

For direct (3, 5, R) clutch operation, REFER to: Forward Clutch Assembly Direct Clutch

Condition Possible Sources Action
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch does not apply SSB Solenoid filter blocked CLEAN or INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
SSB is mechanically stuck OFF INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch regulator valve stuck OFF DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the direct (3, 5, R) clutch regulator valve. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body  If bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body.
SSB SIG, C35R, C35R SUP hydraulic circuits blocked/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
REV SUPPLY/DRIVE 2 to C35R SUP check ball missing/damaged REMOVE the main control valve body, and INSPECT the check ball missing/damage. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
C35R supply hydraulic circuit blocked or leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the transmission cover and support tower passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary.
Rear planetary sun gear and shell assembly INSPECT the sun gear and shell for wear and damage. INSTALL new components necessary.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch friction plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the direct (3, 5, R) clutch friction and steel plates. INSTALL new components as necessary.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch piston seal leakage INSTALL a new direct (3, 5, R) clutch piston and seals.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch always applied SSB O-rings damaged/leaking INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
SSB mechanically stuck ON INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch regulator valve stuck ON DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the direct (3, 5, R) clutch regulator valve and bias spring. If bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
SSB SIG, C35R, C35R SUP hydraulic circuits blocked/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control and separator plate passages for leakage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
Rear planetary sun gear and shell assembly INSPECT the sun gear and shell for damage that would prevent free rotation. INSTALL new components as necessary.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch friction plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the direct (3, 5, R) clutch friction and steel plates. Measure clutch pack clearance. INSTALL new components as necessary.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch piston return spring INSPECT the return spring for damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch delayed/soft/slipping apply Incorrect Transmission Strategy programmed into PCM Remove SSB and record solenoid band number. Using the scan tool, verify the correct band number is stored in the PCM. If bands numbers do not match, INSTALL a new SSB with correct band number.
SSB solenoid filter partially blocked or restricted INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
SSB mechanically sticking INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch regulator valve sticking DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the direct (3, 5, R) clutch regulator valve. If bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch boost valve stuck ON DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the direct (3, 5, R) clutch boost valve and bias spring. If bore, valve or spring is damaged, INSTALL a new main control. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
SSB SIG, C35R, C35R SUP hydraulic circuits blocked/leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
REV SUPPLY/DRIVE 2 to C35R SUP check ball missing/damaged REMOVE the main control valve body and INSPECT the check ball missing/damage. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
C35R supply hydraulic circuit blocked or leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the transmission cover and support tower passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch friction plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the direct (3, 5, R) clutch friction and steel plates. Measure clutch pack clearance. INSTALL new components as necessary.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch piston seal leakage INSTALL a new direct (3, 5, R) clutch piston and seals.
Direct (3, 5, R) clutch harsh apply Incorrect Transmission Strategy programmed into PCM Remove SSB and record solenoid band number.
