Intermediate Clutch Assembly

Intermediate Clutch Assembly

Intermediate Clutch

For intermediate (2, 6) clutch operation, REFER to: Transmission Description in DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION  REFER to: Intermediate Clutch Assembly Intermediate Clutch

Condition Possible Sources Action
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch does not apply SSC solenoid filter blocked CLEAN or INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
SSC is mechanically stuck OFF INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch regulator valve stuck OFF DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the intermediate (2, 6) clutch regulator valve. If bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
SSC VBS CB26, CB26 hydraulic circuits blocked or leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: Transmission Description in DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
CB26 hydraulic circuit blocked or leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the transmission case passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: Transmission
Rear planetary sun gear and shell assembly INSPECT the sun gear and shell for wear and damage. INSTALL new components necessary. REFER to: DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch friction plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the intermediate (2, 6) clutch friction and steel plates. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: DISASSEMBLY
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch piston seal leakage INSTALL a new intermediate (2, 6) clutch piston and seals. REFER to: ASSEMBLY
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch always applied SSC solenoid O-rings cut/damaged INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
SSC mechanically stuck ON INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch regulator valve stuck ON DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the intermediate (2, 6) clutch regulator valve and spring. If bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
VBS CB26, CB26 hydraulic circuits leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control valve body and separator plate passages for leakage. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
Rear planetary sun gear and shell assembly INSPECT the sun gear and shell for damage that would prevent free rotation. INSTALL new components as necessary.
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch piston return spring INSPECT the return spring for proper installation or damage. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch delayed/soft/slipping apply Incorrect Transmission Strategy programmed into PCM Remove SSC and record solenoid band number. REFER to: Solenoid  Using the scan tool, verify the correct band number is stored in the PCM. If the band numbers do not match, INSTALL a new SSC with correct band number.
SSC solenoid filter partially blocked or restricted CLEAN or INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
SSC mechanically sticking INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch regulator valve sticking DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the intermediate (2, 6) clutch regulator valve. If bore or valve is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
VBS CB26, CB26 hydraulic circuits blocked or leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the main control and separator plate passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: DISASSEMBLY
CB26 supply hydraulic circuit blocked or leaking DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the transmission case passages for debris/blockage. CLEAN as necessary. REFER to: DISASSEMBLY
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch friction plates DISASSEMBLE and INSPECT the intermediate (2, 6) clutch friction and steel plates. INSTALL new components as necessary. REFER to: DISASSEMBLY
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch piston seal leakage INSTALL a new intermediate (2, 6) clutch piston. REFER to: Transmission
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch harsh apply Incorrect Transmission Strategy programmed into PCM Remove SSC and record solenoid band number. REFER to: Solenoid  Using the scan tool, verify the correct band number is stored in the PCM. If the band numbers do not match, INSTALL a new SSC with correct band number.
SSC mechanically sticking INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to: Solenoid
Intermediate (2, 6) clutch regulator valve sticking DISASSEMBLE, CLEAN and INSPECT the intermediate (2, 6) clutch regulator valve and spring. If bore, valve or spring is damaged, INSTALL a new main control valve body. REFER to: Main Control Valve Body
