Motorcraft® Metal Brake Parts Cleaner PM-4-A, PM-4-B -
NOTE: This procedure is considered a major service repair. For Ford warranty coverage, the vehicle must be returned to the Multimatic vehicle assembly and repair facility.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist using the front and mid lift points. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Remove the bolts and the engine underbody cover.

  3. Lower the vehicle and position the hoist using the front and rear lift points. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
    • Remove the oil pan drain plugs and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil pan drain bolts.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

  4. NOTE: Use a Lisle® 61570 - 76 mm - 14 flutes end cap wrench.
    NOTE: Place a rag over the cross bar when removing the oil filter to catch drips from the oil filter.

    Using a oil filter end cap wrench, remove and discard the engine oil filter.

    • Remove the auxiliary oil cooler drain plug and drain the auxiliary oil cooler lines and engine oil pump assembly. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    • Install the oil pan drain plug.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

  5. Remove the nuts and the LH turbocharger heat shield.

  6. Remove the 2 nuts (1 shown) and the RH turbocharger heat shield.

    1. Remove the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tube support bracket bolt.
    2. NOTE: Use a AN Wrench (such as an Summit Racing® AN hose end wrench, or equivalent).
      NOTE: Only use the appropriately sized AN Wrench to hold the male fitting while loosening the female fitting.

      Loosen the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tube fittings.

    3. Remove the bolt and the auxiliary oil cooler return tube.
    4. Remove the bolt and the auxiliary oil cooler supply tube.

    1. Remove and discard the O-ring seals.
    2. Inspect the 37 degree flare of the auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tubes for damage and replace if necessary.

  7. If not replaced, clean the lower auxiliary oil cooler supply and return tubes with brake clean.

  8. Remove the bolts and position the oil pump supply and return tube aside.

  9. Remove the LH turbocharger coolant supply and return tubes. Refer to: Turbocharger Coolant Supply Tube LH . Refer to: Turbocharger Coolant Return Tube LH .
  10. Remove the RH turbocharger coolant supply and return tubes. Refer to: Turbocharger Coolant Supply Tube RH . Refer to: Turbocharger Coolant Return Tube RH .
  11. Remove the RH and LH turbochargers. Refer to: Turbocharger RH . Refer to: Turbocharger LH .
  12. Remove the degas bottle. Refer to: Degas Bottle .
  13. Remove the intake manifold. Refer to: Intake Manifold  .
  14. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt .
  15. Remove the oil pump belt. Refer to: Oil Pump Drive Belt .
  16. Remove the rear frame structure and powertrain. Refer to: Rear Frame Structure and Powertrain .
  17. Remove the crankcase vent tube.

    • Disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.

    • Remove the crankcase vent tube.

    • Disconnect the PCM electrical connector.

    • Disconnect the engine harness electrical connectors.

  18. Install the RH engine lift eye. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1654 Lift Eyes.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  19. Position the engine spreader bar into the RH engine lift eye. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1246 Engine Spreader Bar.

  20. Position the LH engine lift eye onto the engine spreader bar and install the bolts. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1654 Lift Eyes.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  21. Install a floor crane and remove the engine assembly. Use the General Equipment: Floor Crane

    • Remove the bolts and the starter ring gear.

    • Discard the bolts.

  22. Remove the crankshaft sensor ring.

  23. NOTE: Install the engine stand bolts into the cylinder block only. Do not install the bolts into the oil pan.

    Mount the engine to the mounting stand. Use the General Equipment: Mounting Stand
