Fuel Pump Driver Module (FPDM): Removal

NOTE: The fuel pump driver modules are located on top of the fuel tank.
NOTE: This procedure is considered a major service repair. For Ford warranty coverage, the vehicle must be returned to the Multimatic vehicle assembly and repair facility.
  1. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to: Fuel Tank Draining .
  2. Remove the rear frame structure and powertrain. Refer to: Rear Frame Structure and Powertrain .
    • Loosen the clamp.

    • Remove the bolts and the fuel tank filler pipe.

    • Remove the lower bolts.

    • Loosen the top bolt and position aside the left bracket.

  3. Remove the bolts and the LH access panel.

    • Remove the lower bolts.

    • Loosen the top bolt and position aside the right bracket.

  4. Remove the bolts and the RH access panel.

  5. Remove the engine mounts. Refer to: Engine Mount LH . Refer to: Engine Mount RH .
  6. NOTE: Make sure that all openings are sealed.

    1. Remove the nut.
    2. Remove the bolts, the bracket and detach the A/C compressor outlet line.

  7. Remove the bolts and the engine bulkhead panel.

    • Disconnect the fuel pump driver module electrical connectors.

    • Remove the left fuel pump driver module ground bolt and nut, then move the wire harness out of the way.

  8. Release the retaining tabs, remove the left fuel pump driver module, then remove the right fuel pump driver module from the bracket and position aside.

  9. Remove the ground bolt and nut, then remove the fuel pump driver module.
