Power Steering System Flushing

For information on Ford Color Coded Illustrations refer to OEM Color Coding .

Materials 

Name Specification
Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid XT-10-QLVC WSS-M2C938-AMERCON® LV,

Flushing 

NOTE: This flushing procedure requires the use of a

Bleed Box only available from Multimatic. Contact the Ford GT Concierge to obtain a Bleed Box  from Multimatic.

NOTE: Do not attempt to flush the power steering system without using a

Bleed Box provided by Multimatic. Damage to the vehicle and components may result.

  1. Start the engine and manually deploy the rear wing.

    • NOTE: Make sure that this setting is returned to

      Auto once the wing is raised to avoid damage to the system and or components.

      Set the wing to

      Raised  in the instrument cluster.

  2. NOTE: Make sure that the area around and under the vehicle is clear.

    Cycle the vehicle in and out of

    Track Mode  .

  3. Turn the engine off.
  4. Remove the front undershield. Refer to: Front Undershield .
  5. NOTE: Disconnect the VDM electrical connectors as shown. Failure to follow these instructions could lead to component damage or failure.

    Disconnect the VDM electrical connectors.

  6. NOTE: Connect connectors to the same colors. Grey-to-grey. Black-to-black.

    Connect the bleed box harness connectors to the VDM.

  7. NOTE: Connect connectors to the same colors. Grey-to-grey. Black-to-black.

    Connect the vehicle VDM to the bleed box.

  8. NOTE: Failure to follow these instructions will cause fluid to leak through the breather during the purge cycle.

    Remove the cap and breather from the power steering fluid reservoir. Cover both openings with a lint-free towel.

  9. NOTE: Do NOT start the engine.

    Turn ignition ON.

    • Do Not press brake pedal. Press the push button ignition switch.

  10. NOTE: This step is to make sure the system is completely depressurized prior to disconnecting any hydraulic lines.

    Activate the

    SYS PURGE  switch on the

    Bleed Box  until the wing falls into the airbrake mode and fluid stops filling the reservoir.

    • The wing will fall into air brake to show there is no pressure in the circuit.

  11. Deactivate the

    SYS PURGE  switch and turn the ignition OFF.

  12. Lower the front active aero assembly.

    1. Remove the screws.
    2. Loosen the nuts.
    3. Position aside and support the front active aero assembly.

  13. NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping fluid.

    Disconnect the return line from the power steering fluid cooler.

    • Attach an extension hose to the return line, place the open end of the extension hose into a suitable container and allow the contents of the reservoir to drain out completely. Plug the hose once reservoir is empty.

    • Attach an extension hose to the power steering fluid cooler port.

  14. NOTE: Do not overfill the reservoir.
    NOTE: Do not reuse the power steering fluid that has been flushed from the power steering system.

    Fill the fluid level to the

    Max  line.

    Material: Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (WSS-M2C938-A) (MERCON® LV,)

  15. NOTE: Do not allow the power steering pump to run completely dry of power steering fluid. Damage to the power steering pump may occur.

    Start the engine while simultaneously turning the steering wheel to lock and then immediately turn the engine OFF.

  16. NOTE: Do not overfill the reservoir.
    NOTE: Avoid turning the steering wheel without the engine running as this may cause air to be pulled into the steering gear.

    Fill the fluid level to the

    Max  line.

    Material: Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (WSS-M2C938-A) (MERCON® LV,)

  17. Repeat Steps 15 and 16, turning the steering wheel in the opposite direction each time, until the fluid exiting the power steering fluid return hose is clean and clear of foreign material.
  18. Remove the extension hose from the cooler port.
  19. Remove the plug from the power steering fluid return line.
  20. Connect the return line to the power steering fluid cooler.

    Torque: 19 lb.ft (26 Nm)

  21. Remove and discard the power steering fluid in-line filter.

  22. Install the new power steering fluid in-line filter.

    Torque: 1: 23 lb.ft (31 Nm) 2: 19 lb.ft (26 Nm)

  23. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to: Power Steering System Bleeding  .
