Acceleration Control - Overview

Overview 

The acceleration control consists of one of the following:

• A fixed accelerator pedal and position sensor assembly.
• An adjustable accelerator pedal and position sensor assembly.

The throttle is controlled by an APP sensor on the accelerator pedal assembly. The APP sensor sends a signal to the PCM in response to throttle pedal movements initiated by the driver. The PCM sends a signal to the electronic throttle control which increases and decreases throttle position.

If the vehicle is equipped with adjustable pedals, both the accelerator and brake pedals are adjusted simultaneously forward or backward. A rocker switch on the instrument panel provides adjustment of the pedal assembly when it is activated. On vehicles with memory seat option, the pedal position is controlled by the memory selection or the rocker switch. The components in the acceleration control system cannot be repaired, new components must be installed if damaged or worn. When servicing the adjustable accelerator pedal, always disconnect the cable at the brake pedal.
