Cruise Release Switch Test

  1. Turn ignition on. Place cruise control switch in "ON" position. Measure voltage by probing pin "G" (circuit 86) and connecting other end of voltmeter to ground. If 12 volts are present, go to step 2). If voltage is zero, go to step 4).
  2. Depress brake pedal and measure voltage by probing cruise release switch (circuit 86) and connecting other side of voltmeter to ground. If 12 volts are present, check cruise release switch and/or clutch switch (M/T) for adjustment. Adjust or replace as necessary.
  3. If voltage is zero, cruise release switch is okay. If vehicle is equipped with clutch switch (M/T), ensure there is continuity through switch. Check for proper system operation.
  4. Measure voltage by probing cruise release switch (circuit 86) and connecting other end of voltmeter to ground. If 12 volts are present, locate open in circuit 86 between control module connector "G" pin and cruise release switch. Repair or replace as necessary. If vehicle is equipped with clutch switch (M/T), ensure there is continuity through switch.
  5. If voltage is zero, measure voltage by probing cruise release switch (circuit 86) and connecting other end of voltmeter to a known good ground. If voltage is zero, perform, in this article, CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH TEST  . If 12 volts are present, check brake and/or clutch switch for adjustment. Adjust or replace as necessary.
