Charge Indicator Light Always On
- Perform charging system check. SeeCHARGING SYSTEM CHECK under TROUBLE SHOOTING. Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If DTCs exist, diagnose and repair DTCs first. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Using scan tool, perform indicator bulb check. Follow manufacturer's instructions. If all indicators operate properly, go to next step. If any indicators do not operate properly, diagnose indicator problem. See appropriate wiring diagram in ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - BLAZER, BRAVADA, ENVOY, JIMMY, SONOMA & S10 PICKUP article.
- Disconnect generator connector. Turn ignition on. If indicator is still on, go to next step. If indicator is not on, go to step 8 .
- Ensure generator connector is disconnected. Disconnect PCM connector C1 (2.2L) or VCM connector C3 (4.3L). Check for continuity between generator harness connector terminal "B" (Red wire) and ground. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step 7 .
- Repair short to ground in Red wire between generator and PCM or VCM. Recheck system.
- Using DVOM, check voltage at battery stud on generator. If 9-16 volts exists, go to next step. If 9-16 volts does not exist, go to step 9 .
- Replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system.
- Repair open or short circuit in Red wire. Recheck system.
