Starter Draw Test (Diesel)

  1. Disable fuel system. On "C" and "K" diesel models, remove fuel pump relay, located in underhood fuse-relay center. On "P" diesel models, disconnect fuel injection pump fuel shut off solenoid connector, located on engine, in front of throttle body.
  2. On all models, connect ammeter to negative battery cable. Crank engine and observe ammeter readings. If readings are more than 360 amps, replace starter assembly. If readings are less than 300 amps, replace battery cable or connections.
