Charge Indicator Light Always On
- Perform charging system check. See CHARGING SYSTEM TEST . Go to next step.
- Using scan tool, check for DTCs. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If DTCs exist, diagnose and repair DTCs first.
- Using scan tool, perform indicator bulb check. If all indicators operate properly, go to next step. If any indicators do not operate properly, diagnose indicator problem. See appropriate wiring diagram in appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
- Disconnect generator connector. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light is still on, go to next step. If charge indicator light is not on, go to step 8 .
- Ensure generator connector is disconnected. Disconnect PCM connector C1 (2.2L) or VCM connector C3 (4.3L). Check for continuity between generator harness connector terminal "B" (Red wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step 7 .
- Repair short to ground in Red wire between generator and PCM/VCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Recheck system.
- Using DVOM, check voltage at battery stud on generator. If 9-16 volts exist, go to next step. If 9-16 volts do not exist, go to step 9 .
- Replace generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system.
- Repair open or short circuit in Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Recheck system.
