Charging System Test

  1. Turn ignition on. Charge indicator light should stay on and voltmeter should read 12-14 volts. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT NEVER ON  . If voltmeter does not read 12-14 volts, go to VOLTMETER DISPLAYING HIGH OR LOW  .
  2. Start engine. If charging system and charge indicator light are operating properly, go to next step. If charge indicator stays on, go to CHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT ALWAYS ON  . If voltmeter does not read 13-16 volts, go to VOLTMETER DISPLAYING HIGH OR LOW  .
  3. Turn on headlights, rear defogger and blower motor. If charging system and charge indicator light are operating properly, check is complete. If charge indicator light illuminates and/or voltmeter does not read 13-16 volts, go to VOLTMETER DISPLAYING HIGH OR LOW  .
