Replace and Program Control Module

To program a replacement or an existing control module, perform the following procedure:

  1. Ignition/Vehicle OFF.
  2. Ensure that the key fob is inside the vehicle and not moved for the duration of the programming
  3. Access the Service Programming System (SPS) and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select K160 Brake System Control Module - Prepare Control Module for Removal and follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select K160 Brake System Control Module - Programming and follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. On the SPS Supported Controllers screen, select K160 Brake System Control Module - Setup and follow the on-screen instructions.
  7. Perform the scan tool Control Functions, Brake Hydraulics Test procedure.
  8. If the Brake Hydraulics Test fails perform the scan tool Control Functions, Automated Brake Bleed procedure
  9. If the Brake Hydraulics Test passes go to step 8
  10. Perform the scan tool Configuration/Reset Functions, Brake System Plunger Pressure Rise Starting Point Learn procedure
  11. If the programming procedure did not complete and a Device Control Limits Exceeded message is displayed refer to Device Control Limits Exceeded Error
  12. If the A104 Brake Master Cylinder was also replaced perform the Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding procedure refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding
  13. Clear DTCs.
  14. If ABS, Traction Control and/or Stabilitrak indicators or Brake Related Messages are ON after performing programming and setup, do the following:
    1. Disconnect the scan tool from the X84 Data Link Connector.
    2. Ignition/Vehicle OFF, all access doors closed, all vehicle systems OFF, and all keys at least 3 m (9.8 ft) away from the vehicle. It may take up to 10 min to power down.
    3. Ignition ON/Vehicle In Service Mode, verify ABS, Traction Control and/or Stabilitrak indicators or Brake Messsages are Off. If not, repeat the above step to make sure the vehicle is in sleep mode.
    4. Clear DTCs.
