Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to ENGINE COVER for 3.8L, ENGINE COVER for 5.0L Engine Mechanical System )

  2. Remove the muffler support bracket (A).

  3. Using the transmission jack, support the transmission.
  4. Remove the transmission cross member (A).

    NOTE: To rotate the propeller shaft after setting manual control lever (A) in the "N".

  5. Remove the propeller shaft mounting bolts (A) by rotating the propeller shaft.
  6. Disconnect the rear propeller shaft (B) from the transfer case (AWD) or transmission (2WD).

    Propeller shaft mounting torque: 

    88.3 ~ 107.9 N.m (9.0 ~ 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 ~ 79.6 lb-ft)

  7. Put down the transmission by adjusting jack.
  8. Disconnect the inhibitor connector (A) and then remove the shift cable by removing nut (B).

  9. Remove the manual control lever (B) after removing a nut (A).
  10. Remove the inhibitor switch assembly after removing the bolts (C).
