Repair Procedures: Removal
CAUTION:
In case of replacing the controller (ECU) and transfer case due to changing characteristics of the frictional materials inside the transfer case, it is necessary to check and enter the calibration data.
- The calibration procedure is not required in case of replacing the transfer case and ITA (ECU) at the same time.
In case of replacing the transfer case assembly only, perform the clutch learning reset in the ITA (ECU).
- In case of replacing the ITA (ECU) only, perform the clutch learning back-up and writing in the new transfer case ITA (ECU) using diagnostic tool equipment.
(Refer to 4 Wheel Drive (AWD) system - "ADJUSTMENT ")
CAUTION:
Cautions in handling the transfer case
- Preventing the MSE-I (Module Scalable ECU-Intergrated) from damage
- In case of transporting the transfer case
- Use caution when lifting the transfer case from the transporting package to make sure the ITA does not collide with the other transfer case.
- Use caution for the MSE-I not to be impacted from contacting the floor or structure.
- In case of assembling the transmission
- Use caution for the ITA not to be impacted from contacting the transmission, floor or structure.
- In case of transporting the transfer case
- Preventing the oil leaking
- Even with the air breather valve installed, oil leaks from the collected oil during disassembling/assembling procedures in case of failure of keeping the horizontal position. Therefore, use caution when replacing the transmission.
- Turn ignition switch OFF and disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
- Remove the under cover.
(Refer to Engine mechanical system - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")
- Remove the rear propeller shaft.
(Refer to Drive shaft and axle - "REAR PROPELLER SHAFT ")
- Separate the wiring clip (A) from transfer case.
- Disconnect the AWD ECU connector (A) and then removing the wiring bracket (B).
- Remove the below items.
- Ground line
- Wiring bracket
- NOx sensor
Wiring bracket tightening torque:
9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb-ft)
- Loosen the bolts and the nuts and then removing the transmission support bracket (A).
Tightening torque:
9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 lb-ft)
63.7 - 83.4 N.m (6.5 - 8.5 kgf.m, 47.0 - 61.5 lb-ft)
CAUTION:- Support the transmission valve body cover bottom side with using a jack.
- Loosen the transfer case upper mounting bolts (A).
Tightening torque:
29.4 - 41.2 N.m (3.0 - 4.2 kgf.m, 21.7 - 30.4 lb-ft)
- Loosen the bottom mounting bolts and then removing the transfer cases (A).CAUTION:
- Support the transmission valve body cover bottom side with using a jack.
- Remove the front propeller shaft (A).
