Pick-Up Coil (Tracker)

  1. Disconnect ignition secondary coil and attach to ground. Remove distributor cap and rotor. Ensure that reluctor teeth are NOT aligned with pick-up coil. See Fig 1 . Using a voltmeter, attach positive lead to ignition coil negative terminal and negative lead to ground.
  2. Voltmeter should read 12 volts. Insert screwdriver between reluctor and pick-up coil. Each time screwdriver is inserted, voltmeter should fluctuate up to one volt. If voltmeter does not fluctuate, replace pick-up coil.
