Base Timing

  1. Inspect timing mark indicator and timing mark notch. Clean marks if necessary. See Figure and Figure . Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure idle speed is 700 RPM. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS. Turn off engine and all accessories. Attach timing light to No. 1 spark plug wire.
  2. Connect fused jumper wire between ALDL connector terminals No. 1 and 3, located under right side instrument panel or behind kick panel. See Fig 1 . Start engine and aim timing light at crankshaft pulley. Timing should be at 10 degrees BTDC.
  3. If timing is not 10 degrees BTDC, loosen distributor flange hold-down bolts and rotate distributor to obtain correct ignition timing. Tighten distributor flange hold-down bolts to 15 ft. lbs. (20 N.m) and recheck timing.
  4. Remove jumper wire from ALDL connector. Turn ignition off and remove timing light.

Storm & Storm GSi (2) 10 @ 700 (2) 10 @ 700
(1) With automatic transmission in Park or Neutral.
(2) With jumper wire installed in ALDL connector located behind right side of instrument panel. See Fig 1 .
