Fuel Pressure Test

  1. With engine off, relieve fuel system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE in this article. Attach Fuel Pressure Gauge Set (J-34730-1) at fuel filter inlet in front of fuel tank. See Fig 1 . Cycle ignition switch from OFF-to-ON position a couple of times to build-up fuel pressure. Leave ignition in ON position.
  2. Measure and record fuel pressure with pump operating and engine off. Start engine. Measure and record fuel pressure with engine idling. See REGULATED FUEL PRESSURE table. Turn engine or fuel pump off and allow one minute for pressure to reduce. Minimum fuel rest pressure should be 21 psi (1.5 kg/cm2 ).
  3. If pressure is not within specification, check for defective fuel pump, pressure regulator or restriction in fuel system. Repair as necessary. Remove pressure gauge. Start engine and check for fuel leaks.
