Chart A-3, Engine Cranks But Will Not Run: Notes
Before using this chart, battery condition, engine cranking speed, and fuel quantity should be checked and verifed as being okay.
When ignition is turned to ON or start the control relay applies battery voltage to ECM terminals G1 and G7. The control relay then provides power to the fuel pump circuit, the starter, and throttle opener depending upon ECM inputs of temperature and crank signal.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Control relay should click at ignition ON. If not, ground circuits should be checked for opens.
- Check for voltage at ECM.
- Checks for opens in ground circuit.
- Be sure to check resistance with CHART C-1 before replacing ECM to prevent damage to ECM.
