Repair and Diagnosis: Transmission: Clutches: Description

Clutch is a single disc type. A diaphragm spring is used to engage pressure plate. On Metro, Storm and Tracker, clutch is mechanically controlled by the clutch pedal, clutch cable, return spring, release fork and prelubricated release bearing. On Prizm, clutch is hydraulically operated by clutch master cylinder and housing-mounted slave cylinder. On all models, a clutch start switch is used to disable starter if clutch pedal is not fully depressed.
