Chart A-3, Cranks But Won't Run, W/ESC: Notes
With distributor rotating, crank angle sensor generates an AC voltage ignition reference signal that is sent to ECM on Brown and Orange wire. The ECM, located below left side of instrument panel, then supplies a ground path for ignition coil primary circuit on Brown/White wire to ignition coil, and on Yellow/Black wire for fuel injector. Ignition coil and fuel injector receive battery voltage when ECM provides ground.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Open circuit in either fuse could result in a no-start condition, but engine will still crank.
- This checks for open circuit in spark plug wires.
- This checks the fuel injector.
- This determines if ignition coil is supplying spark to the distributor.
- This ensures ECM is toggling the ignition coil.
