Chart A-5, Cranks But Won't Run, GSI: Notes
With engine cranking, signal from starter will activate circuit opening relay for fuel pump operation. Once engine starts, starter signal is removed from circuit opening relay, and fuel control switch in MAF sensor operates fuel pump.
If fuel control switch in MAF sensor is defective, engine will start but will not continue to run. Circuit opening relay is mounted on bracket attached to ECM, located behind center console of instrument panel.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Fuel pump should operate when engine is cranking.
- This checks for open circuit between fuel pump and circuit opening relay.
- This checks for battery voltage from EFI main relay to circuit opening relay. The EFI main relay is located in fuse/relay block on left front side of engine compartment.
- This checks MAF sensor fuel control switch operation.
