Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

NOTE: All testing procedures are made with engine at normal operating temperature.
  1. Disconnect TPS electrical connector. With throttle valve at idle position, apply approximately 16-20 in. Hg to throttle opener valve. See Figure . Ensure throttle valve is closed.
  2. Insert a .016" (.41 mm) feeler gauge between throttle stop screw and throttle lever. See Figure . Connect ohmmeter between TPS terminals No. 1 and No. 4. See Fig 1 .
  3. Rotate TPS fully clockwise, then slowly rotate counterclockwise until continuity exists. Hold TPS and tighten TPS screws to 31 INCH lbs. (3.5 N.m).
  4. Check TPS resistance with throttle lever in different positions to ensure correct operation. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) RESISTANCE table. Once properly adjusted, install electrical connector.
