Code 53, Ground Circuit Open (CALIF. Only): Notes
On California vehicles, an additional ground is supplied to ECM. ECM supplies 5 volts to Black/Green wire through a fixed resistor. ECM expects voltage signal to be low. Code 53 is set if high voltage signal is indicated at ECM for 3 seconds.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to test numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Probing the Black/Green wire cavity with test light to B+, checks for an open in Black/Green wire, a poor ground connection or a faulty ECM.
