Disabling & Activating Air Bag System

WARNING: Wait about 10 minutes after disabling SIR system before servicing. System maintains SIR system voltage for about 10 minutes. Servicing SIR system before 10 minutes may cause accidental air bag deployment and possible personal injury.
  1. Ensure front wheels face straight ahead. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove fuses C-22 and C-23 from fuse block. See Fig 1 . Remove switch bezel from instrument panel, and disconnect electrical connectors from switches.
  2. Remove cigarette lighter bezel from instrument panel, and disconnect electrical connectors from lighter. Remove 2 screws and hood latch release handle from knee bolster. Remove knee bolster. Remove Connector Position Assurance (CPA) clip, and disconnect lower Orange 3-pin steering column connector at base of steering column. See Fig 2 . Wait approximately 10 minutes before servicing SIR components.
  3. To activate SIR system, turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Orange 3-pin connector and CPA clip at base of steering column. See Fig 2 . Install knee bolster and related components. Install cigarette lighter and electrical connectors to switch bezel. Install fuses C-22 and C-23 in fuse block. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Observe INFL REST indicator light. INFL REST indicator light should blink 7-9 times and then go out.
