Repair and Diagnosis: Electrical: Starter: Description

Nippondenso and Mitsubishi starters are solenoid-actuated gear reduction type. Starters are equipped with overrunning clutch/drive assembly. The brush holder assembly contains 4 brushes and springs in the commutator end of starter housing. The integral starter solenoid is attached to the drive housing. All vehicles use some type of clutch start (M/T) or neutral safety (A/T) switch incorporated within starter wiring circuit.
