Camshaft Position Sensor

  1. A malfunction in the camshaft position sensor circuit will set diagnostic trouble Code 42. For testing procedures, see TESTS W/CODES article in this section. Use the following procedure to diagnose camshaft position sensor.
  2. Ensure air gap measures .008-.016" (.2-.4 mm). Adjust as necessary. If air gap is okay, disconnect distributor 2-pin electrical connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminals of distributor connector. Resistance should be 140-180 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace camshaft position sensor.
