Throttle Position (TP) Sensor: Adjustments

NOTE: Perform all testing procedures with engine at normal operating temperature.
CAUTION: DO NOT use throttle stop screw to adjust throttle position sensor.
  1. Disconnect electrical connector from TP sensor. Loosen TP sensor retaining screws. Insert a .016" (.40 mm) feeler gauge between throttle lever and stop screw. See Fig 1. On models equipped with throttle opener (California only), disconnect throttle opener vacuum hose from throttle body, and apply vacuum to hose. Connect ohmmeter between TP sensor terminals IDL and E2. See Fig 2.
  2. Rotate throttle position sensor fully clockwise, then slowly rotate counterclockwise until ohmmeter indicates continuity. Hold TP sensor and tighten retaining screws. Remove feeler gauge. Ohmmeter should still indicate continuity.
  3. Insert a .035" (.89 mm) feeler gauge between throttle lever and stop screw. Ohmmeter should indicate no continuity. Remove feeler gauge. Reconnect electrical connector, and reconnect throttle opener vacuum hose to throttle body (if removed).
