With ignition on, voltage is applied to the Transmission Range (TR) switch. With gear selector lever in "P" position, and brake pedal depressed, voltage is applied through contacts of TR switch and stoplight switch to the shift lock solenoid. The shift lock solenoid is permanently grounded. With voltage applied, shift lock solenoid energizes, allowing gear selector lever locking mechanism to release.
