Anti-Lock Brake System: Description

Prizm is equipped with ABS-VI anti-lock brake system. ABS-VI system uses electric motors to modulate displacement pistons. Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) operates on each front wheel and both rear wheels. ABS-VI system consists of Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), system enable relay, 4 wheel speed sensors, hydraulic unit, 3 warning lights and brake switch.

EBCM uses signals from wheel speed sensor to determine when a wheel is about to lock up and adjusts hydraulic pressure to maintain optimum braking. ABS-VI cannot increase brake pressure greater than master cylinder pressure generated by driver. ABS-VI cannot apply brakes by itself.
