Shift Interlock Systems: Description
Transmission is equipped with an electronically controlled shift interlock system. Prizm incorporates an electronically controlled ignition key lock system. Shift interlock system prevents gear selector lever from being moved from "P" position unless brake pedal is depressed. In case of a malfunction, shift lever can be released by depressing shift lock override button, located near shift lever. Ignition key lock system prevents ignition key from being moved from ON or ACC position to LOCK position unless gear selector lever is in "P" position.
System components include some or all of the following: stoplight switch, Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch or Transmission Range (TR) switch, shift lock diode, shift lock relay, shift lock solenoid, ignition key lock solenoid, shift lock control switch, shift lock control module and shift lock override button.
