Ignition Coil Resistance

Remove distributor cap, rotor and dust cover. Using an ohmmeter, measure primary and secondary resistance. See Fig 1 . Replace ignition coil if readings are not within specification. See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table.

Application Primary Secondary
Cold (1) .36-.55 9000-15,400
Hot (2) .45-.65 11,400-18,100
(1) Temperatures between 14-104°F (-10-50°C).
(2) Temperatures between 104-212°F (50-100°C).
