With ignition on, voltage is applied to the shift lock diode. When brake pedal is depressed, voltage is applied through stoplight switch to the shift lock solenoid, energizing it. Shift lock solenoid is grounded through the Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch. The PNP switch prevents solenoid from energizing when gear selector lever is in any position other than "P" position.
