CLOCKSPRING Coil & Combination Switch: Installation
- Ensure front wheels are pointing straight-ahead and ignition switch is in LOCK position. Install clockspring coil and combination switch on steering column.
- If installing a NEW clockspring coil and combination switch, clockspring coil is held at the center position with a lock pin and seal. Remove lock pin from clockspring coil after installation.
- If installing a used clockspring coil and combination switch, clockspring coil must be centered. See CLOCKSPRING COIL CENTERING under ADJUSTMENTS.
- On all clockspring coil applications, reconnect wiring harness for clockspring coil and combination switch. Install wiring harness clamps on steering column. Install upper and lower steering column covers. Install lower instrument panel cover.CAUTION: When installing steering wheel, ensure the 2 lugs on clockspring coil engage with grooves on rear of steering wheel.
- Install steering wheel with reference marks aligned. Route inflator module and horn wires from clockspring through steering wheel. See Figure. Ensure the 2 lugs on clockspring coil engage with grooves on rear of steering wheel. Install and tighten steering wheel retaining nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG INFLATOR MODULE. Activate air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
