Steering Column: Removal

  1. If steering column is being removed to service a steering column component, remove steering wheel and SRS coil before removing steering column. See STEERING WHEEL & AIR BAG MODULE and SRS COIL. If steering column is being removed to gain access to instrument panel components, disable SRS system and do not remove steering wheel. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove knee bolster and steering column covers. See Figure . Disconnect steering column electrical connectors. Disconnect steering column joint pinch bolt. Remove steering column mounting nuts and bolts, and disconnect steering column from instrument panel. Remove steering column from vehicle.
