Symptom & Component Tests
NOTE:
For left front power window/door lock switch connector terminal identification, see IDENTIFYING LEFT FRONT POWER WINDOW/DOOR LOCK CONNECTOR TERMINALS table. See Fig 1
. Remote and door power window switches use similar connectors. See Fig 2
.
NOTE:
If both left front power door lock switch and power window switch do not operate, check for open in Black wire between power window/door lock switch assembly and ground connection. Ground connection is located behind left side of instrument panel above fuse block No. 2. If Black wire is okay, replace power window/door lock switch assembly.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Depress left front window switch in left front power window/door lock switch to DOWN position and then lift to UP position. If left front window moves down and then up, go to next step. If left front window does not operate, go to step 10).
- Depress right front window switch in left front power window/door lock switch to DOWN position and then lift to UP position. If right front window moves down and then up, go to next step. If right front window does not operate, go to step 19).
- Depress left rear remote window switch in center console to DOWN position and then lift to UP position. If left rear window moves down and then up, go to next step. If left rear window does not operate, go to step 35).
- Depress right rear remote window switch in center console to DOWN position and then lift to UP position. If right rear window moves down and then up, go to next step. If right rear window does not operate, go to step 55).
- Depress right front window switch in right front door to DOWN position and then lift to UP position. If right front window moves down and then up, go to next step. If right front window does not operate, go to step 74).
- Depress left rear window switch in left rear door to DOWN position and then lift to UP position. If left rear window moves down and then up, go to next step. If left rear window does not operate, go to step 75).
- Depress right rear window switch in right rear door to DOWN position and then lift to UP position. If right rear window moves down and then up, go to next step. If right rear window does not operate, go to step 76).
- Depress window lock switch in left front power window/door lock switch to LOCK position. Attempt to operate all windows using all power window switches. If left front window operates and all other windows do not operate, go to next step. If all windows do not operate, replace left front power window/door lock switch. If all windows operate, check for short to ground in Brown or Brown/Black wire between left front power window/door lock switch, through junction connector No. 5 to remote rear window switches. Repair wires as necessary. If Brown and Brown/Black wires are okay, replace left front power window/door lock switch.
- Depress left front window switch in left front power window/door lock switch firmly to DOWN position and release. If left front window moves down automatically to fully open position, power window system is functioning properly. If left front window moves momentarily and stops, replace left front power window/door lock switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window motor connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire) and ground. Depress left front window switch to DOWN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 14).
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window motor connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and ground. Depress left front window switch to UP position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 15).
- Disconnect left front power window motor. Using test light, probe between left front power window motor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 17).
- Using test light, probe between left front power window motor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, replace left front power window motor. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 18).
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire) and ground. Depress left front window switch to DOWN position. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 16). If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire between left front power window/door lock switch and left front power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow wire) and ground. Lift left front window switch to UP position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Yellow wire between left front power window/door lock switch and left front power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 10 (Blue/White wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, replace left front power window/door lock switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Blue/White wire between left front power window/door lock switch and fuse block No. 2.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire between left front power window/door lock switch and left front power window motor. If test light does not illuminate, replace left front power window/door lock switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 4 (Yellow wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, repair open in Yellow wire between left front power window/door lock switch and left front power window motor. If test light does not illuminate, replace left front power window/door lock switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front power window motor connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire) and ground. Depress right front window switch in left front power window/door lock switch to DOWN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 23).
- Using test light, backprobe between right front power window motor connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and ground. Depress right front window switch in left front power window/door lock switch to UP position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 26).
- Disconnect right front power window motor connector. Using test light, probe between power window motor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 29).
- Using test light, probe between power window motor connector harness terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, replace right front power window motor. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 32).
- Using test light, backprobe between right front door power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red wire) and ground. Depress right front power window switch in left front power window/door lock switch to DOWN position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire between right front power window switch and right front power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front door power window switch connector terminal No. 2 (Green/Black wire) and ground. Depress right front power window switch in left front power window/door lock switch to DOWN position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right front door power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 6 (Green/Black wire) and ground. Depress right front door power window switch to DOWN position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Green/Black wire between left front power window/door lock switch and right front power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front door power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire) and ground. Lift right front power window switch in left front power window/door lock switch to UP position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Yellow wire between right front power window switch and right front power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front door power window switch connector terminal No. 4 (Red/Black wire) and ground. Lift right front power window switch in left front power window/door lock switch to UP position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right front door power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch connector terminal No. 7 (Red/Black wire) and ground. Lift right front door power window switch to UP position. If test light does not illuminate, go back to step 16). If test light illuminates, repair open in Red/Black wire between left front power window/door lock switch and right front power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front door power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire between right front power window switch and right front power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front door power window switch connector terminal No. 2 (Green/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right front door power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 6 (Green/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, replace left front power window/door lock switch. If test light illuminates, repair open in Green/Black wire between left front power window/door lock switch and right front power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front door power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Yellow wire between right front power window switch and right front power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front door power window switch connector terminal No. 4 (Red/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right front door power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 7 (Red/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, replace left front power window/door lock switch. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red/Black wire between left front power window/door lock switch and right front power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window motor connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire) and ground. Depress left rear remote power window switch to DOWN position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 39).
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window motor connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and ground. Lift left rear remote power window switch to UP position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 43).
- Disconnect left rear power window motor connector. Using test light, backprobe between left rear power window motor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 46).
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear power window motor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 51). If test light illuminates, replace left rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red wire) and ground. Depress left rear remote power window switch to DOWN position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire between left rear power window switch and left rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window switch connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Black wire) and ground. Depress left rear remote power window switch to DOWN position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace left rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red/White wire) and ground. Depress left rear remote power window switch to DOWN position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire or Red/Black wire between left rear remote power window switch and left rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 1 (Blue/White wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, replace left rear remote power window switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Blue/White wire between left rear remote power window switch and junction connector No. 4.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire) and ground. Lift left rear remote power window switch to UP position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Yellow wire between left rear power window switch and left rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window switch connector terminal No. 4 (Green/Black wire) and ground. Lift left rear remote power window switch to UP position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace left rear door power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Green wire) and ground. Lift left rear remote power window switch to UP position. If test light does not illuminate, go back to step 42). If test light illuminates, repair open in Green/Black wire or Green wire between left rear remote power window switch and left rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire between left rear power window switch and left rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window switch connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace left rear door power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire or Red/Black wire between left rear remote power window switch and left rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace left rear remote power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left front power window/door lock switch Gray 10-pin connector terminal No. 5 (Brown/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, repair open in Brown or Brown/Black wire(s) between left front power window/door lock switch and left rear remote power window switch. If test light does not illuminate, replace left front power window/door lock switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Yellow wire between left rear power window switch and left rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear door power window switch connector terminal No. 4 (Green/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace left rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Green wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Green wire or Green/Black wire between left rear remote power window switch and left rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go back to step 50). If test light illuminates, replace left rear remote power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window motor connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire) and ground. Depress right rear remote power window switch to DOWN position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 59).
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window motor connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and ground. Lift right rear remote power window switch to UP position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 63).
- Disconnect right rear power window motor connector. Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window motor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 66).
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window motor harness connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) and battery voltage. If test light illuminates, replace right rear power window motor. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 71).
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red wire) and ground. Depress right rear remote power window switch to DOWN position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire between right rear power window switch and right rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power switch connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Black wire) and ground. Depress right rear remote power window switch to DOWN position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red/White wire) and ground. Depress right rear remote power window switch to DOWN position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red/White wire or Red/Black wire between right rear remote power window switch and right rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 1 (Blue/White wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, replace right rear remote power window switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Blue/White wire between right rear remote power window switch and junction connector No. 4.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire) and ground. Lift right rear remote power window switch to UP position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Yellow wire between right rear power window switch and right rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window switch connector terminal No. 4 (Green/Black wire) and ground. Lift right rear remote power window switch to UP position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Green/White wire) and ground. Lift right rear remote power window switch to UP position. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go back to step 62). If test light illuminates, repair open in Green/White wire or Green/Black wire between right rear remote power window switch and right rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red wire between right rear power window switch and right rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window switch connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 5 (Red/White wire) and battery voltage. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Red/White wire or Red/Black wire between right rear remote power window switch and right rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 4 (Brown/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right rear remote power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Yellow wire between right rear power window switch and right rear power window motor.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window switch connector terminal No. 4 (Green/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 3 (Green/White wire) and battery voltage. Remote switch is located in center console. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, repair open in Green/White wire or Green/Black wire between right rear remote power window switch and right rear power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear remote power window switch connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/Black wire) and battery voltage. If test light does not illuminate, repeat step 50). If test light illuminates, replace right rear remote power window switch.
- Using test light, backprobe between right front power window switch connector terminal No. 1 (Blue wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, replace right front power window switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Blue wire or Blue/White wire between right front power window switch and junction connector No. 4.
- Using test light, backprobe between left rear power window switch connector terminal No. 1 (Blue wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, replace left rear power window switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Blue wire or Blue/White wire between left rear power window switch and junction connector No. 4.
- Using test light, backprobe between right rear power window switch connector terminal No. 1 (Blue wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, replace right rear power window switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Blue wire or Blue/White wire between right rear power window switch and junction connector No. 4.
