Cold Engine
NOTE:
Engine coolant temperature must be below 158°F (70°C).
- Remove air cleaner cover and filter element. Disconnect the hose from the main air jet solenoid and install a vacuum pump to the solenoid valve. Start the engine and draw vacuum at idle. Vacuum should remain steady.
- If there is no vacuum, check for voltage at main air jet solenoid valve. If there is no voltage, go to COMPONENT TESTING . If there is voltage, replace solenoid valve and retest.
- If in step 1) vacuum remains steady, raise engine speed to above 3150 RPM. Vacuum should drop to zero. If vacuum drops, disconnect the vacuum gauge and reconnect air hose and air cleaner. If there is vacuum, check for voltage at main air jet solenoid valve. If there is voltage, go to COMPONENT TESTING . If there is no voltage, replace the solenoid valve and retest.
