Pressure Testing (Odyssey)

  1. Disconnect negative battery terminal. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Remove fuel pulsation damper. Connect Fuel Pressure Gauge (07406-0040001 on Accord, or 07406-004000A on S2000) and Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter (07VAJ-0040100). Reconnect negative battery terminal. Disconnect vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator and pinch line closed. Start engine and allow to idle. If engine starts, go to step  3. If engine will not start, go to next step.
  2. Remove fuel fill cap. Have an assistant turn ignition on. Listen for fuel flow at fuel injector rails underneath intake manifold cover. Fuel flow should be heard for 2 seconds. If fuel flow is heard (fuel pump operates properly), go to next step. If fuel flow is not heard (fuel pump does not operate properly), test fuel pump. See FUEL SYSTEM in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
  3. Read fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE  table. Attempt to start engine. If engine does not start, repair engine as necessary and go to next step. If engine starts and fuel pressure is as specified, go to next step. If engine starts and fuel pressure is not as specified, go to step  5.
  4. With engine idling, release and reconnect vacuum hose to fuel pressure regulator. Read fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE  table. If fuel pressure is as specified, fuel system is okay at this time. If pressure is not as specified, go to next step.
  5. With engine idling, disconnect vacuum hose from pressure regulator again. Pressure should rise when hose is disconnected. If pressure did not rise, replace fuel pressure regulator. If pressure rose, but readings were lower than specified, check for clogged fuel filter or fuel line leakage. If pressure rose, but readings were higher than specified, check for pinched or clogged fuel return hose.
  6. Relieve fuel pressure and remove gauge. Reinstall fuel pulsation damper using NEW copper washers and tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 N.m). Start engine and check for leaks.
