Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Measure voltage between ECM connector terminals B 14 and B 20.

Is there about 5 V ?
1. YES -Go to step 3.
2. NO -Go to step 5.
Press the clutch pedal.
Measure voltage between ECM connector terminals B14 and B20.

Is there less than 1.0 V ?
1. YES -The clutch pedal position switch signal is OK.
2. NO -Go to step 12.
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch 2P connector.
Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Measure voltage between ECM connector terminals B14 and B20.

Is there about 5 V ?
1. YES -Replace the clutch pedal position switch.
2. NO -Go to step 9.
Turn the ignition switch OFF, and wait for 10 seconds.
Disconnect ECM connector B (25P).
Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal B14 and body ground.

Is there continuity ?
1. YES -Repair short in the wire between the ECM (B14) and the clutch pedal position switch.
2. NO -Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM; 2000-2001 M/T models (see HOW TO TROUBLESHOOT CIRCUITS AT THE ECM ), 2002-2006 M/T models (see ECM UPDATING AND SUBSTITUTION FOR TESTING-2002-2006 M/T MODELS AND CVT MODEL ), then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM (see ECM REPLACEMENT ).
Turn the ignition switch OFF.
Disconnect the clutch pedal position switch 2P connector.
At the sensor side, check for continuity between clutch pedal position switch 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with the clutch pedal pressed.

Is there continuity ?
1. YES -Go to step 15.
2. NO -Adjust the clutch pedal position switch.
Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Measure voltage between clutch pedal position switch 2P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground.

Is there about 5 V ?
1. YES -Repair open in the wire between the clutch pedal position switch and G402.
2. NO -Repair open in the wire between the ECM (B14) and the clutch pedal position switch.
