Vehicle Speed Sensor: S2000
- Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect VSS 3-pin connector. VSS is located at left side of transmission. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Check for continuity between ground and VSS harness connector terminal No. 3 (Brown/Yellow wire). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exists, repair open in Brown/Yellow wire between VSS and ground connector G101. Ground connector G101 is located behind valve cover on engine block.
- Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) sensor. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and VSS harness connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow/Blue wire). If about 5 volts exist, go to next step. If about 5 volts do not exist, repair short in Yellow/Blue wire between VSS and PCM 31-pin connect "C" terminal No. 28 or TP sensor. See PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS
article.
- Measure voltage between ground and VSS harness connector terminal No. 2 (Blue/White wire). If about 5 volts exist, go to next step. If about 5 volts do not exist, repair open or short to ground in Blue/White wire between VSS and PCM 32-pin connector "A" terminal No. 9 or instrument cluster 20-pin connector "C" terminal No. 3. See PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS
article.
- Reconnect VSS connector. Turn ignition on and place transmission in Neutral. Using backprobe set, measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster 20-pin connector "C" terminal No. 3 (Blue/White wire). See Fig 1. If voltage toggles between zero and about 5 volts or more, replace printer circuit board in instrument cluster. If voltage does not toggle between zero and about 5 volts or more, replace VSS.
