Generator (Gen) Fr Signal: S2000

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect generator 4-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Using backprobe set, measure voltage between PCM 25-pin connector "B" terminal No. 20 (Brown/Yellow wire) and 31-pin connector "C" No. 5 (White/Red wire). See PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS article. If about 5 volts exists, go to step  3. If about 5 volts does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off and disconnect PCM 31-pin connector "C". Check for continuity between ground and PCM 31-pin harness connector "C" terminal No. 5 (White/Red wire). If continuity exists, repair short in White/Red wire between PCM 31-pin connector "C" and generator connector. If continuity does not exist, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck. See SUBSTITUTING PCM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If symptom or indication goes away, replace original PCM.
  3. Turn ignition off and reconnect generator 4-pin connector. Start engine and run at 3000 RPM with no loads and transmission in Park or Neutral, until radiator fan comes on. Allow engine to idle. Using backprobe set, measure voltage between PCM 25-pin connector "B" terminals No. 20 (Brown/Yellow wire) and 31-pin connector "C" terminal No. 5 (White/Red wire). Turn headlights and A/C on. If voltage does not decrease when headlights and A/C are turned on, go to next step. If voltage decreases when headlights and A/C are turned on, generator FR signal is okay.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect generator 4-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and generator harness connector terminal No. 4 (White/Red wire). See Figure. If about 5 volts exist, problem is within generator or regulator. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article. If about 5 volts do not exist, repair open in White/Red wire between PCM 31-pin connector "C" and generator.
