Fuel Pressure: Insight
- Disconnect negative battery terminal. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Replace banjo bolt with Fuel Pressure Gauge (07406-004000A) and Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter (90201-P0A-003). Reconnect negative battery terminal.
- Disconnect vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator and pinch line closed. Start engine, and read fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE table. If engine starts, go to next step. If engine does not start, check operation of fuel pump. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION .
- With engine idling, reconnect vacuum hose to fuel pressure regulator and unpinch line. Read fuel pressure. Both gauge readings should be within specification. See FUEL PRESSURE table. If both fuel pressure readings are within specification, go to next step. If both fuel pressure readings are not as specified, check fuel pump operation. See FUEL PUMP OPERATION .
- With engine idling, disconnect vacuum hose from pressure regulator again. Pressure should rise when hose is disconnected. If pressure did not rise, replace fuel pressure regulator. If pressure rose, but readings were lower than specified, check for clogged fuel filter or fuel line leakage. If pressure rose, but readings were higher than specified, check for pinched or clogged fuel return hose.
- Relieve fuel pressure and remove gauge. Reinstall banjo bolt using NEW copper washers and tighten to 16 ft. lbs. (22 N.m). Start engine and check for leaks.
